Secrets to Healthy Hair

hair with split ends

After all the hair dye, bleach, and hot tools, our hair starts losing its shine and sometimes may even break. Our hair ends up requiring extra attention and some time to repair. Here are some secrets to healthy hair from our very own American Beauty College’s Cosmetology Instructors.

Olive Oil and Almond Oil

Ms. Liz said she came across a client who had the healthiest hair she’s ever seen. Although it was dyed, the client maintained soft, shiny hair. Her secret was a mixture of olive oil and almond oil that she used on the ends of her hair everyday. There is a more extensive version of this remedy that can treat even the most damaged hair. By using the same olive oil and almond oil combination, gently massage the oils into your scalp and throughout the hair for 10 – 15 minutes. After you’ve massaged in the oils, take a steamed towel and tightly wrap it around the rest of the hair to lock in moisture. Leave the oils and towel on for an hour and then wash out the mixture with water and shampoo.

Coconut Oil

For those individuals who are vegan and are still looking for amazing results, Ms. Ruiz swears by coconut oil. It works best to hydrate the hair and give it the shine it has been missing. This works amazing on recently bleached hair that might be looking dry and frizzy. Even if your hair is perfectly healthy, coconut oil helps keep the nutrients hair needs to grow. The best way to use it is by heating up the coconut oil until warm, then apply all over the hair from scalp to ends. Put a shower cap over the hair, and leave it on overnight or for at least 1 hour. It is optional to apply gentle heat with a hair dryer to intensify treatment. When it has set, rinse hair with shampoo and water and experience instantly hydrated hair. Repeat this home remedy no more than once a week for hydrated, healthy hair.

It’s a Ten Miracle Leave in Product

Ms. Ruiz recommends the It’s a Ten Miracle Leave in Product for those individuals who like salon type products. It is a reasonable price for the amount of repairing it can do and is completely worth it. It is a versatile product and can be found easily at an local drugstore.
